WARDENS BAG UPRISING 7S TITLE

An elated Corrections chief Lt. Col Ifereimi Vasu poses with the victorious Wardens team after the win.

Victory was sweet when the URF Wardens team walked away with $25,000 over the weekend to bag yet another tournament title – this time, the Uprising 7s.

And Wardens coach Timoci Wainiqolo attributed the win to God saying that was exactly what saw the team through.

Wardens beat the Emosi Vucago-led FMF Fiji Warriors side31-26 in a thrilling nail biting encounter.

The Wardens featured the likes of Apisai Naiyabo as captain, Joji Ragamate, who played exceptionally well during the two-day tournament, Ilai Tinai and former Suva Grammar sprinter, Niko Verekauta.

Wardens manager Penisoni Moce said there were other tournaments left to play in the season and they wanted to maintain consistency throughout.

He dedicated the win to the Commissioner of Corrections Lt. Col Ifereimi Vasu, Corrections staff and to inmates in particular.

The FMF Fiji Warriors, which featured players like James Brown and Jimilai Naikadawa, settled for $5000.
