Vanuatu Charge D’ Affaires Kanaam Wilson Naplaui and his delegation being briefed by Supervisor Southern division A/SUPT Josefa Kulinidilo at Naboro yesterday. Vanuatu’s Charge D’ Affaires Kanaam Wilson Naplaui yesterday visited the Naboro Correctional complex to see first-hand the progress of the Fiji Corrections’ industries’ commercialization. FCS industries include the poultry farm, piggery, joinery, tailor, bakery, root crops and vegetable farm. Mr Naplaui was accompanied by a delegation including the Chief of Staff Karlshem Bongran, Budget Manager for the Vanuatu Police John Colwick and Manager Executive Services of Vanuatu’s Internal Affairs ministry, Jones Ephraim. They were met by the Acting Commissioner Corrections Suprintendent Akuila Namakadre, Supervisor Southern division, A/SUPT Josefa Kulinidilo and other senior officers. The delegation took a tour of the Bread of Life bakery, the piggery and also had a look at the vegetable and root crop farms. An impressed Mr Naplaui said they were very interested in the way the FCS ran its industries which were driven to be commercially viable. “I think it is very good. I’ve heard that when these inmates leave prison they actually become very useful citizens and put to use what they have learnt while serving time,” Mr Naplaui said. The Corrections Service in Vanuatu falls under the Ministry of Justice and Social Welfare. He added that while the delegation would return to Vanuatu and prepare a report about their visit to the Naboro institution, they were also looking at the possibility of having an exchange programme with officers of the Fiji Corrections Service. The delegation was then treated to an afternoon tea. The Naboro Complex houses four institutions – Maximum, Medium, Minimum and Pre-Release Centre. www.corrections.org.fj |
