Commissioner of Corrections Lt Col Ifereimi Vasu has urged officers to cut costs, take control and minimize spending.

Lt Col Vasu was speaking while opening the Command Brief for the 2011 third quarter which got underway at the Suva Corrections Centre bure this morning.

“We are lacking in some areas especially planning, we do last minute on the implementation and issuing of instructions to facilitate activities.

“We need to strive for the best, we need to think outside the box in order to achieve our mission,” he said.

Lt Col. Vasu encouraged the officers to work together so that at the end of the year, “we can tell ourselves, we have done the best for inmates under our care, we have done the best for our families and we have done the best for the Corrections Service”.

While he commended the officers for their work, he encouraged them to work even harder.

“I want to encourage you to be constructive in your deliberations,” he said.

The brief ends on Friday.
