MAKE USE OF YOUR TALENTS, INMATES TOLD

Seven inmates attending a one-month mosaic art workshop at the Suva Corrections Centre have been urged to use their talents and skills. Speaking during the opening of the workshop today, Staff Officer Rehabilitation, Principal Corrections Officer Vika Vereivalu said the programme will enhance their creative art thinking in laying out pieces of tiles. “We hope that all of you will use this programme as a tool for success,” said PCO Vereivalu. She said inmates are fortunate to have facilitators who are working voluntarily to share their time and experience. Mossaic Art Programme facilitator, Bronwyn Gell from Adelaide, Australia said she found out that teaching inmates on creative art work will be of benefit to them. “This can be a major source of income to inmates when they are released. All they need is training and upgrading of their skills and talents,” Ms Gell said. She commended the Corrections Service for giving inmates the chance to learn such worthy programmes. Inmate, 31-year-old Jiuta Veiseivalu said creative art using pieces of tiles is a big demand in the country. “I will be released in December and my plan now is to continue with this art work and open a market to sell the products. I believe this can be my source of income,” he said. www.corrections.org.fj |
