It was Christmas with a difference for inmates at the Natabua Corrections Centre when the Commissioner of Corrections Lieutenant Colonel Ifereimi Vasu took time out to visit them on Christmas day.

After spending time with inmates and ex-offenders in Labasa, the Commissioner visited Natabua as part of his end of the year tour.

Most of the inmates had their families visit them on Christmas day and with the Commissioner personally greeting them, it was more than they could ask for.

Lt. Col Vasu commended the staff for their hard work, commitment and dedication throughout the year.

Speaking while visiting staff and inmates on Christmas Day, he said the task of reforming those who found themselves on the wrong side of the law, required a lot of hard work.

He said because of their hard work, the FCS was able to achieve a lot this year. Lt. Col Vasu said reforming inmates to become better people is a challenge in itself and he encouraged the officers to continue with it next year. He also thanked the inmates for taking part in Christmas carol singing as part of the FCS’ effort to reach out to the community. The inmates he said, had great talents which they showcased to the public. Lt. Col Vasu also thanked the community for supporting the Yellow Ribbon initiative.
