LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES, COMMISSIONER URGES

Learn from your mistakes and try to improve on them next year, Commissioner of Corrections Lieutenant Colonel Ifereimi Vasu told his staff.

He made the comment during the annual Commissioner’s parade at Naboro.

He challenged the staff to work hard to ensure that the number of escapes, hunger strikes and deaths are reduced next year.

Another challenge he mentioned was the increase in the number of sick and elderly people being admitted into the custody of the Fiji Corrections Service.

Lt. Col Vasu said next year was an exciting year for the FCS with the establishment of the Fiji Corporation of Rehabilitative Enterprises (FCORE) and the Community Action for the Rehabilitation of Ex-offenders (CARE).

FCORE will be the commercial arm under which all current enterprise in the Corrections Service will be managed and CARE is an after-care initiative to involve the wider society.

Lt. Col Vasu also paid tribute to those who had left the Service, thanking them for their commitment this year.
