LAUTOKA INMATES DEMONSTRATE SKILLS AT CARPENTRY WORKSHOP
![]() Inmates at the Natabua Corrections Centre during the carpentry workshop. Twelve inmates currently attending a carpentry workshop at the Natabua Corrections Center are quite skillful, says Fiji National University Training officer Josefa Salobo. Mr Salobo said he was happy to see that the inmates were very creative and it was easy for him to teach them. “Sometimes we look at them in a very negative way but I have realized how talented they are,” he said. He said it would be easy for them to design a house before construction because they had such creative minds. “This is a good opportunity for them because once they are released from prison, they can utilize the knowledge and skills that they have acquired,” he said. “The certificate that they will be awarded with at the end of the course carries a lot of weight and it will help them find employment upon their release,” Mr Salobo said. The course ends in February. www.corrections.org.fj |
