LAUTOKA INMATES BEGIN PRACTICAL WORK

Lautoka inmates begin practical work during a carpentry skills course.

Inmates attending a six-month carpentry skills workshop at the Natabua Corrections Center have begun their practical work after three weeks of theory.

Fiji National University Senior Training Officer Josefa Salobo said he was glad to see that inmates are learning very fast.

“This demonstrates their interest in learning,” Mr Salobo said.

He said inmates were given the opportunity to use machines provided by the National Training Productivity Center to use their skills and what they have learnt in the past month.

“The machines are being used to cut whatever designs they wish so they can create an end product.”

Mr Salobo said they are now working on their project to build a guard house for night guard officers.

“We will start working on that project very soon. Through this project we will assess them on their skills capability,” he said.

The carpentry skills workshop continues until February.
