LABASA INMATES TO WOW NORTHERNERS

Labasa inmates and officers preparing for the concert scheduled for
tomorrow night.

A variety of songs and dances are part of the items on display as inmates of the Labasa Corrections Centre will wow the people of the North at the first ever benefit concert at the Labasa Civic Centre this week.

The concert aimed to benefit families of inmates incarcerated at the Labasa Corrections Centre will be held tomorrow at 7pm.

Supervisor Northern, Assistant Superintendent Sakiusa Veiwili said churches and youth groups in the Labasa area will also be contributing items to the concert.

“This is the first time that we are having such a concert in the North by the inmates and the churches and the vanua are very supportive,” he said.

“Money raised from the concert will go towards the families of the inmates, particularly the children who we hope to brighten up their Christmas this year.”

Mr Veiwili said inmates have taken advantage of daylight savings to practice and rehearse their items which will include meke, actions song, skits, gospel and secular numbers and creative arts.

He said the support of the churches have been very encouraging and are contributing to the concert through the participation of their youth groups.
