INMATES TO CLEAN UP HART SETTLEMENTS
FCS Supervisor Central/Eastern division ASC Sairusi Gauna in talks with Nasinu Special Administrator Mosese Kama. Inmates from the Nasinu Corrections Centre will soon be cleaning up and beautifying areas around the Housing Assistance Relief Trust (HART) settlements in Nasinu. This is in line with efforts by the Fiji Corrections Service to engage with the community, to ensure that inmates reintegrate well back into society upon their release. The decision was made today following talks between the Supervisor Central Eastern division (SCED), Superintendent Sairusi Gauna and the Special Administrator Nasinu, Mosese Kama. The seven HART settlements in Nasinu are Kalokalo Crescent in Makoi, Rampur Road in Narere, Delainasole, Tomanu Road in Nadera, Saqa Road in Valelevu, Newtown and Veisida. “We have been engaging with the community in civic pride activities in the North and West and we also want to do it for the Nasinu area. “For Suva, we’ve already had very positive talks with the Special Administrator and we hope to engage inmates soon in maintaining Albert Park, Thurston Garden and the Suva foreshore,” SP Gauna said. He added that this year, the FCS wants to increase its community engagement activities. Mr Kama confirmed the Nasinu Town Council could provide gloves and sacks for inmates to use for cleaning up. www.corrections.org.fj |
