The Fiji Corrections Service today received two hydroponic lettuce farms from the British American Tobacco (Fiji) as part of their support for the Yellow Ribbon initiative.

On hand to deliver the goods to the Corrections Commissioner Lieutenant Colonel Ifereimi Vasu were BAT General Manager Michael Penrose and Corporate and Regulatory Affairs manager Rajeshwar Singh.

The farms were donated at the Nasinu Corrections Centre where inmates there are expected to look after it on a daily basis.

Lt. Col Vasu conveyed his acknowledgement to Mr Penrose and his team for the immense contribution to the Service.

“Thank you very much for your support and we want you to know that we do appreciate what you have given us today.

“It’s amazing just looking at how it works and I’m sure the inmates who will be involved in this project will certainly learn a lot from it,” Lt. Col Vasu said.

Mr Singh said it was encouraging to see that the FCS was venturing into commercialization and remained steadfast in creating awareness on the meaning of Yellow Ribbon in the community.

“This is to show our support for your commericalisation and under the Yellow Ribbon project where inmates can be up-skilled so that when they leave prison they have some skills to take home with them,” Mr Singh said.
