GIVE INMATES A SECOND CHANCE, SAYS YELLOW RIBBON QUEEN

Miss Yellow Ribbon 2011 Dipika Deo again pleaded with the community last night to accept prisoners upon
their release and give them a second try at life.

Last night’s show which was televised national on Fiji One, was in fact the second public judging for contestants
of the Queen’s category. “I am still begging you tonight ladies and gentlemen, that inmates need a second chance
and should be loved and supported.

The Corrections Service, she said cannot work alone, “it is us - the community that must come forward to support
the Yellow Ribbon initiative”. In responding to her question on her views on the role of the media in Fiji, Dipika
said the media plays an important role. She added the media should be commended for their initiative and hard work.

“Without the media, people in Fiji will not be aware of what is going on around them. I fully support the work currently
carried out by the media,” she said.
Dipika added that the media is a strong medium of communication and is a tool for creating awareness on issues
that will move the country forward.
