FCS FINDS WAYS TO IMPROVE INMATES' REHAB

Two Corrections officers are currently attending a three-week training in Malaysia in an effort by the Fiji Corrections Service to improve the way inmates are being rehabilitated. The course, Human Development Plan Towards Rehabilitation of Inmates, is scheduled for November 13- December 3, at the Correctional Academy of Malaysia, Langkawi, Kedah. COA Julia Tamani and COC Viliame Vosamuri were farewelled at the Corrections Headquarters last week by staff of the FCS. Organised by the Malaysian Prison Department, the program will give Correctional staff a chance to flaunt their knowledge and strengthen the ties of long standing friendship among Correctional services in the region. Director Rehabilitation, Superintendent Salote Panapasa said the duo will conduct a comparative study on the rehabilitation of inmates in Fiji and Malaysia “Our rehabilitation framework was adopted from Malaysia in 2008. They will share their experiences on how we at FCS are rehabilitating those under our care. “They will also identify the gaps and the weaknesses in the system and see how best we can improve on it through this training,” SP Panapasa said. Deputy Corrections Commissioner Akuila Namakadre said the FCS looked forward to them gaining knowledge and sharing their experience, that will in turn, benefit the service. www.corrections.org.fj |
