The Yellow Ribbon initiative is the way forward in changing the lives of inmates.

This was the comment made by Papua New Guinea Corrections Department Sergeant Major officer Dianne Paea during their courtesy visit to the FCS national headquarters today.

“We are so interested in the Yellow Ribbon Programme. In Papua New Guinea we are just implementing rehabilitation programmes to inmates,” said Ms Paea.

She said after reading successful stories about Yellow Ribbon Programme in Fiji, they decided to introduce a similar programme in their Corrections Unit.

With the total capacity of 300 inmates in PNG, Ms Paea said the programme under the Yellow Ribbon will surely bring about something positive to the inmates, officers and the community.

She said it was an eye opener to them after they visited the Suva Corrections and Womens’ Corrections Center yesterday.

“We have really learnt a lot in observing how officers here conduct their respective duties,” Ms Paea said.

Ms Paea said they will take back the good news to PNG when they return in five weeks time.
