CORRECTIONS STAFF END 2011 WITH A CLEAN-UP

Staff of the Fiji Corrections Service headquarters marked the year in a different way by cleaning up the Suva foreshore early this morning led by the Commissioner of Corrections Lieutenant Colonel Ifereimi Vasu. Equipped with a pair of gloves each and a sack, the clean-up started from the grounds near the Suva Bowling Club and ended at Suva Grammar School. In his address to the staff after the activity, Lt. Col Vasu said we must take pride in our environment by keeping it clean all the time. “Let us get away from the habit of polluting the environment. Put all rubbish where it is supposed to be and it is important that we teach our children that. “Look at how beautiful Fiji can be if we all can just do the right thing and maintain the beauty of our environment,” Lt Col Vasu said. He thanked the staff for turning up along with their families and participating in the early morning event. In a first for the Service this year, the FCS scooped the Clean-up Fiji award at the Civil Service Excellence Awards last month. FCS staff and inmates normally engage in civic pride activities.
