CORRECTIONS SERVICE CONDUCTS ORC
![]() Correction officers conducting ORC in the North. The team will move to the West this week. An operational readiness check is currently being carried out at all 12 Correction institutions to test and gauge the operational readiness level of the Fiji Corrections Service. In a first for the service, the check will include the conduct of tests on the Commissioner’s Orders and Local Orders including other general knowledge relevant to the FCS roles and functions. “The result of this check is to ascertain our operational level of capability (OLOC), which will in turn be used to shape the planning of our activities in the coming year,” said Assistant Superintendent Headquarters Kelepi Tukana. “We cannot ascertain our OLOC if we do not conduct a check like this on all our institutions around the country,” he added. ASC Tukana said this is the first time for the FCS as the concept was borrowed from the military. “We need to know the preparedness level we are in, in terms of what Government has mandated us to do. When the team returns, their reports will help us compile our annual corporate plan for 2012,” he added. Visibility checks are also being conducted on personnel and equipment including tests on processes and procedures. Live exercises are also being conducted on action and responses to emergency procedures. “The FCS has a vision to become an internationally acclaimed service and to be able to achieve that we need to know where we stand and how we can progress or improve from there. “The ORC will enable us to do that,” ASC Tukana added. The team has completed ORC for the Taveuni, Labasa and Levuka Correction centres and will soon cover the two Correction centres in the West. www.corrections.org.fj |
