CORRECTIONS' OFFICERS GRADUATE FROM FIREFIGHTING COURSE
Corrections' oficers proudly display their certificates after a completing a firefighting course at Naboro last week. Seven Corrections' officers have successfully completed a week-long firefighting course in Naboro. Corrections Director Corporate Services, Peniasi Kunatuba awarded the certificates last week and commended the National Fire Authority for the programme. “Naboro is a semi-urban settlement and we have quite a concentration of infrastructure for inmates and staff. There are possible fire hazards and to make matters worse, there are normally frequent water cuts,” Kunatuba said. “This programme comes with certain responsibilities, to be forward looking and proactive and to be preventative. “You are expected to be fully observant and alert at all times,” Kunatuba told the officers. He added that this should be enforced by periodic fire drills. “While such programmes can be mandatory, we want to emphasise its importance to an institution like ours,” he said. www.corrections.org.fj |
