OC Nasinu A/ASP Watisoni Matakibau (L) with Deputy Corrections Commissioner Akuila Namakadre during a farewell morning tea. Matakibau travels to Hawaii with A/ASP Isireli Nataqa for a security conference. Two senior officers of the Fiji Corrections Service will soon leave our shores for a 6-week intensive security course at the Hawaii-based Asia Pacific Centre for Security Studies (APCSS). They are Officer-in-Charge Nasinu, Acting Assistant Superintendent Watisoni Matakibau, 52 and Acting Assistant Superintendent Isireli Nataqa, 44. A/ASP Matakibau who hails from Naselai in Tailevu is now into his 25th year in the service and has had tremendous experience as a Corrections officer. “I want to thank the Commissioner for nominating me for this course and I must say that I have prepared myself well. “I am ready to take on the challenge and bring back with me valuable lessons to be able to contribute positively towards the Fiji Corrections Service,” A/ASP Matakibau said. A/ASP Nataqa, the commandant at the Corrections Academy said he was excited and looked forward to attending the course. “I want to make a meaningful contribution to the Service and I look forward to learning a whole lot more,” said the father of three, who has served in the FCS for 22 years. In bidding them farewell, Deputy Corrections Commissioner Akuila Namakadre encouraged the officers to make use of the opportunity to learn as much as they can. “The process of learning never stops,” he said. Mr Namakadre challenged them to think analytically while undergoing the course. “You carry the hope of the Fiji Corrections Service and you will not only represent the FCS but the Government of Fiji. Staff at the FCS headquarters hosted a morning tea for them and wished the duo well. The APCSS Conference Program brings current leaders, decision makers and subject experts together to discuss contemporary security concerns. According to the APCSS website, the conferences are tailored to reflect a specific issue, with input from all Asia-Pacific nations in the APCSS region. www.corrections.org.fj |
