CORRECTIONS OFFICER CADET TRAINING WELL UNDERWAY
Corrections officer cadets at the Training Academy in Naboro. Corrections cadet officers are now into the fifth week of their training at the Corrections Academy in Naboro. They are currently undergoing their six-month Junior class where they are being taught the Prison Regulations (Cap 86) and the new Corrections Act 2006 to promote better understanding of a Corrections officer and the roles of a junior non-commissioned officer. The second phase, termed the Senior class, will entail learning about the primary responsibilities of a Principal Corrections officer (PCO) and understanding the roles of a Chief Corrections officer (CCO). The young men and women are the first batch to undergo training as cadet officers of the FCS after having passed an 11-week Basic Recruit Course with the RFMF. “The programme is a first for the Corrections Service and for us it marks the importance of developing and breeding our own leaders,” Director Corporate Services, Peniasi Kunatuba said. The 17 young men and women are expected to develop skills and qualities to enable them to become effective junior Correction officers. Their training programme will, apart from theory, include practical subjects and practical hands-on attachments with various aspects of operation to equip them for future leadership within the FCS. www.corrections.org.fj |
