CORRECTIONS DART TEAM BOWS IN THE FINAL
AN experienced Police team defeated newcomers Fiji Correction Service in the final of the Sukuna Bowl Darts competition at the Merchants Club in Suva yesterday. Team captain of the Police side, Rajesh Kumar said the competition between the disciplinary forces started three months ago. "Police had won the first two rounds of the competition since then," Kumar said. "Since we had been winners in the first and second rounds, we were the top side and we gave newcomers Corrections the chance to play us," he said. He said the games results were close and interesting and all players had improved from their first games. "You cannot take any players lightly now because we seen in the games that were played that major improvements were made." "This competition has now opened doors for all members of the disciplined forces to try out a minor sport," Kumar said. Police team president, George Brown supported Kumar and majority of the players were playing for the first time. "This is the first time majority of the people have tried their hand at the sport," Brown said. "We have seen much improvement during the games and on the score sheet as well," he said FCS team captain Jale Vosadrau commended the introduction of a variety in the Sukuna Bowl competition. "Not everybody can play soccer of rugby," Vosadrau said. "We are supporting the introduction of variety in sporting events in the competition and it promotes friendly rivalry within the disciplined forces," he said. He said even though his side lost, there is room for improvement. "Next year we will come back strongly with an improved bunch of players," Vosadrau said |
