CORRECTION OFFICERS TAKE ON LEADERSHIP COURSE

Two Corrections officers are currently undertaking an Inspectors' Leadership Development course at the Fiji Police Academy in Nasova. Officer- in-charge Sentence Planning Acting Principal Corrections officer Onisimo Raboiliku and Education Liaison officer PPO Savenaca Baleiwai are now into week three of the four-week course, along with 30 police officers. Mr Raboiliku said the course was a pilot programme which focused on various styles of leadership. “It is very interesting and intensive at the same time,” he said. “We learnt about the characteristics of a good leader, how to mentor in a workplace, work ethics and management,” Mr Raboiliku said. “We also learnt the difference between managing and leading,” he added. Over the weekend, participants took part in an intensive physical exercise where they were divided into groups and ventured out on route marches through the streets of Domain and Muanikau. Before the walk, they spent Friday evening and early Saturday morning with classroom lectures by senior officers led by the Acting Commissioner of Police Isikeli Ligairi The aim of the team-bondng exercise was to foster comradeship among the participants.
