CORRECTION OFFICERS DO US PROUD
PCO Savenaca Balewai is congratulated by the Police Commissioner Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua after being awarded his certificate last Friday. Two Corrections officers have successfully completed a four-week Inspectors’ Development Course run by the Fiji Police Academy. Principal Corrections officer Savenaca Baleiwai and Acting PCO Onisimo Raboiliku were awarded their certificates last Friday along with course participants at the Nasova grounds early Friday morning. Four modules were taught during the course namely Leadership and Management, Organisation Administration, Legal and Social Justice and Command and Control. While assessments were done through exams, write-ups and essay writing, a crucial component to successfully complete the course was a pass in the Required Fitness Level (RFL), which both officers managed to attain. Commissioner of Corrections Lieutenant Colonel Ifereimi Vasu thanked the officers for their commitment and hard work and congratulated them on their achievement. PCO Baleiwai said while most of the lessons portrayed their daily work, he learnt some aspects which he could improve on. “The participants were challenged on the first day to pass our RFL together with our theoretical lessons,” he said. “The importance of team work in an organisation plays a vital role in achieving our targets. We cannot work alone but have to appreciate and complement each other in order to lift the organization,” PCO Baleiwai added. The intensity of the course coupled theory and practicals with daily write-ups on each topic, at times reducing sleep to the duo four hours a day. Director Corporate Services Peniasi Kunatuba said the officers ability to match our brothers in the Fiji Police Force provides a good yardstick on our own standards within “Such courses with our counterparts from the Fiji Police will improve our interoperability in terms of sharing of information, knowledge and skills among the two disciplined forces,” Kunatuba added. Lt. Col Vasu reiterated that as from the beginning of 2012, officers will have to pass their RFL before they can be considered for any of our courses. www.corrections.org.fj |
