The Commissioner of Corrections Lieutenant Colonel Ifereimi Vasu has urged members of the Service to use finances wisely.

Speaking during the second quarter parade at Naboro yesterday, Lt. Col Vasu said it is important that officers use money wisely since times are hard.

“Try to live within your means because if you don’t, you will always keep borrowing money. Do away with what you don’t need.

“If there are some things which you can go without, do it. It’s better than having to go and borrow money,” he said.

Lt. Col Vasu also stressed to his officers the importance of the family unit.

“Keep your families intact and serve them well,” he said.

Officers were also urged to improve on areas which needs strengthening.

“Although we may still have some weaknesses, we improved a bit in the second quarter compared to the first quarter this year.

“We must always strive to improve on our service. Let us hold hands and support each other in looking after those who have been admitted into our care,” Lt. Col Vasu said.

He added the work was not an easy one and everyday posed a challenge for officers.

He also emphasised the importance of improving on officers’ fitness level as it was a requirement in their line of duty.

“When your physical fitness level is at its highest, you will no doubt perform to the best of our ability. In the long run, it will benefit you,” he added.

The parade was attended by officers from the Suva and Nasinu Corrections Centre, officers from headquarters and from the four Correction centres in Naboro.
