Leaders are agents of change: Col Seruiratu
21 February, 2012 Participants of the week-long Leadership Symposium at the Fiji Police Academy. Leaders are agents of change, they bring solutions rather than problems and they make something out of nothing, a leadership symposium of disciplined force members were told yesterday. Provincial development Permanent Secretary Colonel Inia Seruiratu made the comment at the Fiji Police Academy as he addressed the 100-plus participants which comprised Police, Correction and Army officers. “If you want to become a good leader, you need to know how to communicate and address people. The words you speak and the way you speak it are very important. “Don’t just talk, make sure you deliver and lead by example,” Col Seruiratu said. Good leaders he said, are made and not born “but you need to develop the potential God has given you”. “If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader,” he added. Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua said the theme of the symposium, ‘Seeding a Culture of Good Leadership’ is appropriate not only within the Police Force but the Correction Service, the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, in our own families and Fiji as a whole. “You need to prepare yourself to become good and better leaders, we all want to leave behind a good legacy,” he told participants. The Fiji Correction Service is being represented by Chief Correction Officers Savenaca Baleiwai, Onisimo Raboiliku and Josua Dausiga. www.corrections.org.fj
