India Defence attache pays courtersy call to FCS
10 March, 2012 India Defence Attache Captain Paul Samuel at the FCS HQ in Suva. India Defence Attache’ Captain Paul Samuel this week paid a courtesy visit to the Corrections Commissioner Lieutenant Colonel Ifereimi Vasu. Captain Samuel who made the call at the Corrections headquarters in Suva was briefed by the Director Corporate Services Peniasi Kunatuba. He was given an overview of the FCS, the in-care programme including the rehabilitation framework and the commercialization of the FCS’ industries. Captain Samuel assured the Commissioner he would explore ways in which they could assist the FCS in terms of managing the diversification of the Corrections industries to a fully-fledged commercial entity. He indicated his desire to have a delegation from India soon to visit the country and to include the FCS in their programme. He also promised to seek the possibility of having the FCS included in the Police delegation to visit India to identify future areas of possible bilateral cooperation. He indicated that in India the prison system was handled by the Police Department. Captain Samuel thanked the Commissioner and his senior staff for the opportunity to visit and know first-hand about the activities of the FCS. He also visited the Suva Correction Centre and the Tagimoucia Gallery, which houses paintings and art work done solely by inmates. www.corrections.org.fj
