West inmates partake in clean-up campaign
18 October, 2011 ![]() Inmates from the West clean up at the Sunshine Special School in Lautoka. To strengthen relationships between the Fiji Corrections Services and the community, inmates in Lautoka and Ba took part in a two-day cleanup campaign. Supervisor Western Division Assistant Superintendent of Corrections Oliver Fisher said the campaign was organised to build a strong relationship between the stakeholders and the community. “This is also part of the rehabilitation programme for inmates since we want them to integrate with the community,” ASC Fisher said. He said ten inmates and two officers of Natabua Corrections Centre were deployed to Sunshine Special School in Lautoka while five inmates and an officer of Ba Corrections Centre were tasked to clean the Ba Town Council compound in Ba. “We are so fortunate to work hand in hand with the Council Administrators in terms of cleaning up as part of our Public Engagements.” ASC Fisher said this will be an ongoing programme. “We are also delighted that the Lautoka City Council has already assigned us to clean the foreshore and other parts of Lautoka City,” he said. He added the participation of inmates in these areas has indicated the strong support they received from stakeholders. www.corrections.org.fj
