Leadership Training Singles Out Best
05 April, 2011 Junior Officers at the opening of the PPO Leadership Course at the Naboro Corrections Academy Officers qualifying scheme set to single out promising future leaders of the Fiji Corrections started yesterday at the Naboro Corrections Institution. The course attended to by a group of a little more than 20 Principal Prison Officers of the organization will take four days to complete. It is a new scheme designed to enhance and differentiate officers with leadership skills allowing the organization to groom future leaders of the Force. This is the first phase of such training for the identification of officers for leadership roles before the syllabus is drawn out to become a sustained line of training. In addressing the participants – Chief Guest and also Commissioner Corrections Lt. Col Iferemi Vasu said it was crucial to have trusted, skilled and qualified officers to lead the organization in the future. “The training certainly has a lot of learning for a week. However you have been identified as future leaders of the service and it is therefore imperative that you take this course seriously. The department has gone through a lot of changes in the recent past. With changes come responsibilities and accountability if we are to keep up with the changing world around us then we need good strong and capable leaders who are able to adapt’ said Vasu. The module covers Leadership and Management, Command and Control, Problem solving and Decision making, Coaching and Mentoring and Disciplinary procedures and communications. www.corrections.org.fj
