17 October, 2011 ![]() Inmates and officers of the FCS were taught about the importance of the role they played in society. Twenty inmates and 10 officers of the Fiji Corrections Service successfully completed a workshop on Civic Education last week. The three-day course, held at the Suva Corrections Centre bure, was conducted by Transparency International. In closing the workshop, Director Transparency International (TI) Fiji, Suliana Siwatibau said corruption destroys our integrity. “Principles are weakened when we are corrupted,” she said. Mrs Siwatibau challenged the inmates and the officers to believe in themselves and to be an agent for change. TI Communications officer John Kamea said the workshop was basically about instilling values to participants. “It’s about making them aware that they have rights and responsibilities that will ultimately contribute to nation building,” Mr Kamea said. www.corrections.org.fj
