Kunatuba appointed FPCS Director Corporate
11 February, 2010

The Commissioner of Fiji Prisons & Corrections Service Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua handing the appointment letter to the Director of Corporate Services Mr. Peniasi Kunatuba as Deputy Commissioner Auta Moceisuva looks on.

It has been a long road for the Mr Peniasi Kunatuba, from school teacher, civil servant, Permanent Secretary to various Government Ministries, inmate and now Director Corporate Services of the very place that incarcerated him for three years.

Fiji Prisons and Corrections Service Commissioner Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua while presenting Mr Kunatuba with his appointment letter said that the FPCS was blessed to have the likes of a person like "Na Qase".

“We are fortunate to have Mr Kunatuba, he is a mentor of great experience.

“Mr Kunatuba understands the way things are done, he has been a mentor and adviser to many of us and we are blessed to have him for a little while more.

Brigadier General Naivalurua said that Mr Kunatuba had expressed his desire to move on as he had other opportunities and inspirations and he was thankful that Mr Kunatuba accepted the position.

“The contract is for three years, but Mr Kunatuba said that he will give it until the year of the year, but who knows he may carry on.”

In accepting his new appointment, Mr Kunatuba said that while he was honoured , he wanted to ensure the senior offices that he has no intentions to block their career path.

“It is indeed an honour to be given an opportunity to help stir our ship forward.

“However let me ensure the senior officers as especially those who were candidates for this particular position, I will not stand in the path of any staff who wants to pursue their career.

“Please bear with me as we stir the ship forward.”

On why he accepted the appointment, Mr Kunatuba said that he had other inspirations but how can someone walk away from a calling.

“I have other things on the horizon, but I guess the greatest calling is always the greatest hurt.”

Mr Kunatuba thanked the officers and staff for their support and asked for their continuous support.

“Thank you all for your support, especially to someone like me who have served time in prison.”

As Director Corporate Services, Mr Kunatuba will be responsible for Human Resources, Finance, Administration and Education, Training and Rehabilitation.
