FPCS get Presidential commendation
25 February, 2010 ![]() The Commissioner of Fiji Prisons & Correctional Services Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua presenting his gift to His Excellency the President of the Republic of Fiji Ratu Epeli Nailatikau The Fiji Prisons and Correctional Service (FPCS) could not get a commendation from anyone higher as the President of the Republic of the Fiji Islands Ratu Epeli Nailatikau heaped praise on the leadership and efforts of the FPCS to bring changes within the organisation. His Excellency made these comments at the Corrections Academy Drill Square as he visited the FPCS for the first time in his capacity as President of the Republic of Fiji. Speaking to officers, staff and inmates the President said that he was impressed with significant developments taking place within the service. The President said he noted and admired the innovative approach and vigor displayed by the personnel in bringing changes to the organisation and visionary and effective leadership. “In the history of the Fiji Prisons and Corrections Services these changes are unprecedented, which is a reflection of the visionary, sound and innovative leadership and efficient and effective management. “With the able leadership of your Commissioner and his wife, you cannot be in better hands.” His Excellency told those at his welcoming ceremony that the purpose of his visit was to recognise the important role that FPCS play in regards to national security, socio-economic development and growth. “Your efforts to assist the ex-offenders in social integration through the various programmes, including the yellow ribbon project, are commendable. “The yellow ribbon has gained overwhelming support from the public at large since its introduction in 2008.” His Excellency told those gathered at the welcoming ceremony that most important part of all these changes was ex-offenders will be able to contribute meaningfully to social development and economic growth. The President said that the achievements to date have been great and this should be fully acknowledged by all. In closing the President said that he gave his full support to the FPCS and others should do the same. “I am confident that the Fiji Prisons and Corrections Service will be able to achieve the targets set out in the Roadmap for Democracy and Sustainable Socio-Economic Development, 2009 -2014.” www.corrections.org.fj
