The yellow ribbon awareness programme continued to spread to the North as leaders from the province of Cakaudrove were informed and addressed during their annual provincial meeting at Yaroi Village on the 21st October 2009.

During the conference, YRP Coordinator PPO Dausiga informed the leaders that the Yellow Ribbon Project (YRP) is about creating awareness of giving a second chance to offenders, generating acceptance of ex-offenders and their families back into the communities.

Director Education Training & Rehabilitation (DETR) A/SP Peniasi Kunatuba informed the leaders about the Rehabilitation Programmes and the changes in the FPCS as a whole. DETR A/SP Kunatuba in addition asked the leaders that FPCS needs the support of the Vanua to successfully accomplish the YRP.

Speaking on behalf of the chairman, the Roko Tui Cakaudrove, Mr Penijamini Velitokaduadua, said that the message of the YRP was a timely one as all leaders from the 13 tikina’s were present.

‘All our leaders now have a responsibility to inform their people about YRP’

Members of the council in principle have all come into an agreement to visit their sons and daughters in prison.

Also present at the meeting was the former Police Commissioner Mr. Romanu Tikotikoca who in his speech commended FPCS for its great work and efforts in the helping of offenders.

Former Prime Minister and representing the Tikina of Navatu Mr. Sitiveni Rabuka also gave his full support on the YRP.

The meeting was chaired by former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Mr. Emitai Boladuadua.

This month is dedicated to the YRP.
