OHS upskill for senior officers
30 March, 2009 The Fiji Prisons and Corrections Service is serious about compliance with the Occupational and Health Safety (OHS) at workplace that its officers are regularly updated on with the latest knowledge and requirements. As part of this skills upgrade, 16 officers in charge and chief operating officers attended a one-day workshop in Suva conducted by the Service’s OHS officer PPO Kameli Ratuvakalevulevuya. The officers were reminded of the importance of OHS and their responsibilities as managers in OHS compliance in the workplace. PPO Vakalevulevuya says that similar workshop will be held in the future. Each correctional institution has its dedicated OHS officers responsible with compliance issues. Recently, the joinery workshop at the Medium Security Prison was closed on the recommendation of the OHS officer. The workshop is expected to be open again for business once it has complied with the various OHS issues.
