United States Defence Attache Commander Robert Forwood and the Political Economic Advisor  for the US Embassy,
 Fiji, Mr. Jim Crowe on their tour to the Maximum Security Prison, Naboro.

The United States Defence Attaché Commander Robert Forwood and the Political Economic Advisor Mr Jim Crowe gave the Fiji Prisons and Corrections Service (FPCS) the thumbs up after visiting the Naboro Correctional Complex.

Commander Forwood said the whole tour of the FPCS was quite impressive.

“It has been quite an educational tour, what we have seen has really impressed us, the facilities here are head and shoulders above other prisons that I have visited in Africa.

“The officers were very forthcoming and open; the atmosphere within the prisons was impressive.

Commander Forwood who was on fact finding tour of the FPCS was briefed by the Deputy Commissioner Mr Auta Moceisuva at the FPCS National Headquarters.

The United States Embassy officials were updated on the changes and transitions within the FPCS as the service moved towards aligning itself toward the Fiji Prisons and Corrections Act, 2006.

 Prior to leaving their tour of the Naboro Prison Complex, the US officials were hosted to a morning tea by the Commissioner of Prisons Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua. 

While on tour of the prison facilities, Commander Forwood and Mr Crowe visited the Minimum and Maximum Security Prisons and the FPCS Commercial Entities.

Commander Forwood who comes from a farming upbringing said that he was glad to be out in the field and to see what is being done at the FPCS Commercial farm.

FPCS Public Relations Officer Fred Elbourne said the visit by the US officials was an opportunity to showcase the developments within the FPCS and the rehabilitation programmes that are in place in the institutions.
