RUGBY HEROES WIN HEARTS IN BUA

The Wardens Rugby team that are currently on tour of the Province of Bua are winning hearts as they conduct clinics and provide financial help to students whose fathers are currently serving inmates. Yesterday (Tuesday, April 27), upon arriving in Bua, the team first visited Vuya District School, where they conducted awareness on the Yellow Ribbon Project and paid for the school fees of an inmate’s child attending the school. Fiji Prisons and Corrections Service Supervisor Northern Division A/ASP Sakiusa Veiwili who is accompanying the team told the students that they was nothing glamorous prison, Vuya District School Head teacher Mrs Ana Ratuilagi speaking on behalf of the mother of the student said that the generosity she witnessed by the players will remain with her for the rest of her days. “I am retiring next year and I am really touched by what I have seen today “It’s a blessing and I want to thank God for what he is doing in the prison department. “I will always tell this story everywhere I go. “I want to thank the Commissioner and the Fiji Prisons for their kind support and for remembering families who are not well off financially.” Mrs Ratuilagi said that the action by the wardens will definitely change the people of Bua’s perception. “Your action today has certainly changed the public’s view towards the prison services and inmates as well. “The student’s mother always comes to me for help to a write a letter for financial support. “You have helped them tremendously today.” The Wardens team is in Bua to participate at the Lekutu District School Sevens tournament, which on Thursday (April, 29) Seven prison officers, who are members of the national sevens squad are also with team and they conducting clinics at schools around the Province of Bua. Team coach, Josateki Savou says they will also promote the Yellow Ribbon Project while participating at the tournament. The Wardens also conducted clinic at Bua College and Dama District School The FPCS is using rugby to promote YRP and will be targeting criminal activity hotspots around the country to keep young people out of prison. www.corrections.org.fj |
