Officers, staff, family members and inmates from the Fiji Prisons and Corrections Service were out in full force on Saturday, October 2 cleaning up Pearce Home and Samabula Senior Citizens Home as part of their October Yellow Ribbon Month Civic Pride Programme.

FPCS Public Relations Officer Fred Elbourne said civil pride programme by the FPCS was a way to give back to the community.

“Part of the Yellow Ribbon Project is about engaging the community, we are always asking the public to assist in the rehabilitation of ex-offenders, however this time we are giving back to the community.

“We decided to clean up the two senior citizens homes to honour them and show them our thanks for their contribution to Fiji.

Elbourne said that next week the FPCS will continue with their civic pride programme at the Home of Compassion and St Christopher’s Home.

The FPCS will be carrying out a series of events this month to commemorate the Yellow Ribbon Project, culminating with a Daring FunRun at Naboro ion at the end of the month.

“The Daring FunRun will be the impetus to creating awareness and forging partnership with the Corporate Sector, Faith based Organisations, NGOs and other organisation through the FPCS new rehabilitation programme Community Action for the Rehabilitation of Ex-offenders (CARE).

“CARE is the mobilization and facilitation of the community to take action towards rendering appropriate support services to help ex-offenders and their families re-integrate successfully into society, Elbourne said.”
