Students of Nasinu Secondary School in Suva were told that the success or failure of their future endeavors depended on the battles that they fight today. This was the message of encouragement delivered by the Fiji Prisons and Corrections Service Commissioner Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua in his opening address of the Nasinu Secondary School Careers Expo 2010. Brigadier General Naivalurua told the students that he was there to tell them frankly and from the heart that their actions of today will determine their future. “Let me kid you not, one day soon you will be parents and you will have to make the same decisions that your parents are making today. “There are many battles that you as students face and one of the major battles is to stay on track and not fall off track like those sentenced by the courts to be under my care. “If you can’t win today, then you cannot fight and win your battles tomorrow and in the future.” The Commissioner told the students that while teachers, parents and society played a role in shaping their tomorrow, only they (students) played the most vital role. “If you go off track now, then it will be very hard to shape your tomorrow, you will have all the opportunities to win your battles if you stay on track. “Remember that while teachers, mum and dad and the greater society plays a role, you play the most important role.” The Commissioner advised the students that to stay on track they had to become leaders. “Anyone can steer the ship, but it takes a leader to chart the course.” “To be a good leader and to remain on track you always have a connection to the ultimate leader God, set priorities and do the right thing in the right way.” The Nasinu Careers Exposition is the first of its kind to be held at Nasinu, where students in schools along the Nasinu/Nausori Corridor had the opportunity to see firsthand what type of career opportunities were available when they left school. Nasinu Secondary School Principal Mr Nemani Bale said that Nasinu Careers Exposition was in line with the school’s vision and that was provide quality education for students to become productive and contributing members to society. www.corrections.org.fj |
