Creating Writing students of the Fiji Prisons and Corrections Service are bringing the roof down at Hibiscus Tent in Suva with their own brand of music and acts.

Crowd favourites Tusiti (Tuesday) who are Fiji’s only mime act had the audience in stitches and begging for more as their performed ‘Fishing in Suva Habour ‘.

The inmates are members of the Creating Writing class that is held in Nasinu and Naboro prisons and is conducted by Ms Mary Daya.

Public Relations Officer Fred Elbourne said that the FPCS for the second time in two years are at the Fiji’s premier festival because of the opportunity it presents in engaging the public.

“The participation of inmates at the Hibiscus Festival is part of FPCS strategy to create visibility and engage of the public.

“Our participation allows the FPCS to create a human face to those under our care by their performance, the arts and craft on display.

“Our main focus is to create awareness that inmates are human being and can be changed but we cannot do it alone and need the partnership of society.”

Mr Lawrence Narayan of Fiji Sun who witnessed Tusiti perform on Monday night said he couldn’t believe that the performers were inmates because they were so professional.

Tusiti , Sigidrigi and Margins Gospel consisting of 332 members will be performing down at the Hibiscus Festival up until Saturday August 27.
