Ms Ros Lugg at the Moli Kula Kip McGrath Centre, Maximum Prison Naboro.


Chief Executive Officer of Kip McGrath New Zealand and South Pacific Mr Jonathan Anderson and the Director of the Learning Staircase Ms Ros Lugg have both given the Fiji Prisons and Corrections Service the thumbs up.

They both made positives comments after visiting the Moli Kula Kip McGrath Learning Centre at the Naboro Maximum Prison on Tuesday (August 24).

Referring to the artistic talent of the inmates who are students at the Literacy and Numeracy Centre and the students of the Nasinu Prison Creative Writing class, Mr Anderson said he was very impressed.

“I am very impressed, blown away with what is being done in Fiji Prisons.”

“What you have done is recognised potential and allowed it to blossom.

“I believe our prison system in New Zealand should come to Fiji and see how it is being done, especially as most of the inmates are Maoris and Pacific Islanders.”

Also echoing Mr Anderson’s praises, Ms Lugg said that she was also blown away.

“I am also blown away.

“I am in the business of helping people and let me tell you that what you are doing here is an inspiration because you are changing lives.

“I will never forget this experience.”

Ms Lugg is a literacy specialist particularly in dyslexia and remedial literacy and she will be back in Fiji in December to conduct more workshops with educationalist.

Both she and Mr Anderson are in Fiji for the first Kip McGrath South Pacific Seminar that was held in Fiji over the last two days.
