![]() The new Commisioner of Police Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua. The Commissioner for Fiji Prisons and Corrections Service Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua was given another portfolio that will be added to his current responsibility as chief custodian for those sentenced by the courts. In a press conference this afternoon, the Permanent Secretary from the Office of the Prime Minister Pio Tikoduadua announced that Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua will have the added responsibility as Commissioner of Police. The announcement brings to an end weeks of speculation of who will be the next Commissioner of Police after the recent resignation of Commodore Esala Teleni. In accepting the new appointment Brigadier General Naivalurua said that it was with humility that he accepted the appointment. “I humbly accept the appointment and responsibilities bestowed upon me and I would like to assure the people of Fiji that I am committed to doing my best as your Police Commissioner.” Brigadier General Naivalurua thanked his predecessor Commodore Teleni. “I acknowledge and appreciate the work done by my predecessor Commodore Esala Teleni for laying a foundation upon which we can build and move forward. The new Commissioner Police said that he was aware of the challenges ahead of him, but with the help of the community, the police force will be able to carry out their duties. “The key to achieving all our goals is a strong partnership with you, the community. “This is very important so that we are able to carry out our functions with ease and effectiveness.” www.corrections.org.fj |
