The Fiji Prisons and Corrections Service set another milestone with the first delivery of 200 uniform items to the National Fire Authority in Suva, yesterday.

Delivered were 50 short sleeves shirts, 50 long sleeves shirts, 50 long pairs of trousers and 50 overalls.

Making the ceremonial delivery to the National Fire Authority’s Director Corporate Service Vijay Naidu was FPCS Inspector General Orisi Katonibau.

FPCS Public Relations Officer Fred Elbourne said the Fiji Prisons was grateful for the faith shown by the National Fire Authority in allowing the inmates of Naboro Medium to sew the uniforms.

“We are so grateful that the CEO of NFA Mr Jone Koroi gave the inmates the opportunity to experience what commercialisation is all about.

“While the activity was in line with our commercial entity, the underpinning factor here is rehabilitation.

“For when the inmates see their handiwork being worn by men saving lives and property they will definitely realise that they are contributing towards a good effort.

“Also the inmates once released from prison can have the confidence to venture out into their own tailoring business.”

The 200 items will be worn and tested by the firefighters and if they pass the test and are durable then the NFA will order 100 overalls every three months and 60 corporate uniforms every three months.
