YRP CONTRIBUTES TO RKSOB CHAPEL FUNDRAISING
![]() The Yellow Ribbon Project has taken its awareness campaign to another level when it started to initiate the concept of giving back. As part at its roadshow at the Ratu Kadavulevu School Old Boys chapel fundraising bazaar at Sukuna Park on Saturday, May 09, the YRP Team managed to raise $500 which became the contribution of the of the Commissioner of Prisons and the officers, parents and inmates of the Fiji Prisons and Corrections Service. The concept was an initiative endorsed by the Commissioner who kindly approved the sale of eggs, bread, cassava, rourou and handicrafts from the Women’s Prison at the roadshow. All the proceeds from the sale went to the chapel funds. “We should not be seen as only receiving. When the opportunity arises and if we can, we should also try giving back to society,” says YRP co-ordinator Isireli Dausiga. “After all that is what the Yellow Ribbon Project is all about. It is about giving life. It is about giving back to society.” PPO Dausiga said that because of the gesture, and the fact that the contribution was repeatedly announced in the PA system, the large crowd was appreciative and receptive of the YRP message. As opportunity was given to OC Women PPO Ana Wilikibau, PPO Dausiga, Mr Kunatuba and Mr Nata to address the crowd and promote the YRP as well to ask for forgiveness from the RKSOB community. Also in the crowd that attentively received the YRP message was the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama who is also an RKS old boy. The event raised $151,000 for the chapel which has been in construction for over 20 years.
