YELLOW RIBBON TEAM AT THE EASTER TOURNAMENT
![]() The Yellow Ribbon Team was in full force taking out the message of second chance to the younger generation. Led by co-ordinator, PPO Isireli Dausiga, team pitched a tent outside the Vodafone Arena for the Fiji Basketball Federation’s annual Easter Baskeball Tournament on Friday, October 10. With music from Tony Orlando’s Tie a Yellow Ribbon on an Old Oak Tree playing in the background, team members greeted patron and spectators as they flowed in the Arena to support their teams. Team leader and DETR Salote Panapasa took the involvement of the Yellow Ribbon to a higher level when she also took part in the competition with her team the Shaq Attack. In a strategic move, the team will now be making the presence of the Yellow Ribbon at sports tournament as the youth is a prime target for the message of second chance. “It is not only second chance, but we are also stressing the message that crime does not pay and that spending time in prison is a waste of time for promising young lives,” says PPO Dausiga. “The challenge for us to is to design our presence in such a way that it is attractive to the high tech and trendy conscious younger generation.” As a first, the awareness campaign had live display of the Fiji Prisons and Corrections Service website www.corrections.org.fj with the kind assistance of Kindanet, providing free wireless internet access for the day. The team played live our website contents of developments and the new direction of the Service. Video clips of activities of the Yellow Ribbon as well as general developments in the prisons. The OC Women Ana Wilikibau led a team from the Women’s Prison selling the handicrafts made by female inmates. The YRT also made specially designed sulus with names of the teams participating at the tournament and the yellow ribbon. www.corrections.org.fj |
