After serving five years in prison 39 year old Solomoni Rokisi returned home on Saturday 7th November after he was discharged from Naboro Minimum Prison.

A big banner “Welcome Home Solo” greeted Solo as relatives with their yellow ribbons turned up to receive him at his new church in Maranaca Nabouciwa, Tailevu.

Solomoni Rokisi who has lost both his parents was handed over to by the Commandant of Staff Training ASP Jona Nawaqavou who was accompanied by representatives from FPCS

Chaplaincy Ministry and other officers. ASP Nawaqavou while addressing the church said that FPCS is responsible for the in-care of offenders while the after-care is everyone’s duty.

“The church should support, encourage, love and nurture Solo in order for the whole process to be completed. I want to also take this time to thank the Chaplaincy Ministry for its great effort in the development of offenders’ spiritual lives”.

ASP Nawaqavou thanked the Maranaca Seventh Day Adventist for their commitment in the fulfillment of the YRP. “I was really amazed to see the big banner and when I looked around, all of you had yellow ribbons”.
Church Elder Joeli Rabo said that the work done by the FPCS Chaplaincy Ministry needs to be carried on. “Our sister church Suvavou SDA have been looking after offenders in Naboro minimum and we are ready to carry on the good work that has been started already. We will help Solo in every way that we possibly can to develop his spiritual life.

“Already the church has bought stuffs to help Solo start his new life. We will be presenting Solo with a new mattress, pillows, blanket, cane knife, file, and bag of clothes courtesy of the members of our church”.

Mr. Rabo acknowledged FPCS for taking into consideration the need for spiritual development for offenders.

Solo in his emotional speech said that he was lost for words at the reception by the people on his arrival. “I am really grateful and I want to thank the church for accepting me back to society.

I want to thank the good commissioner for bringing the YRP to Fiji. We inmates are very lucky to have such a good commissioner who looks after our welfare well as we serve our time in prison”.
