WARDENS WINS BOWL FINAL
![]() The Yellow Ribbon Warden's Rugby team during the Suva 7's tournament at the TFL stadium. Wardens, which had the services of Digicel-sponsored Fiji sevens reps Lepani Nabuliwaqa, William Ryder, Jerry Burotu and Orisi Sareki, beat PWD Bure 14-0 to win the Suva 7s Series Bowl final. The Joe Savou-coached side lost 19-24 to Army Two in the Cup quarter-finals. Army Two laced with Northland reps Ilitomasi Nawalu, Aisake Katonibau, Uraia Vecenadavui, Joela Naituku and former Ratu Kadavulevu School sprinter Jone Mudu, kept the Wardens out of bay throughout the match. Nippy halfback, Nabuliwaqa showed a little bit of magic but it was not enough as Naituku scored the match winner after both teams were tied 19-all at the sound of the hooter. During the two day tournament the Wardens team had a default win over Bau then thumped Army Three 47-0 before a second half comeback to deny Queen Victoria School Old Boys in the last pool game at Bidesi Park. Suva defeated Ratu Filise 31-29 in a superb finale to the first tournament in the Suva 7s Series at the TFL National Stadium on Saturday. In reaching the final, both teams now qualify for the international 7s section at the Digicel Suva Rugby Festival in January when they will compete against teams from Australia, New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga, Papua New Guinea and Hong Kong. The wardens will participate at the Yaroi 7’s which will be held on the 20th-21st of this month in Savusavu. www.corrections.org.fj |
