STUDY TOUR OF HONG KONG
A work shop was held at the Fiji Nursing Association complex on Friday 05th June 9, 2009, to discuss the findings of the comparative study team to Hong Kong in late May. Headed by the Commissioner of Prisons & Corrections, the team composed of the Director of Education, Training and Rehabilitation, the Staff Officer Research and Planning, the Officer in Charge for the Nasinu Prisons & Correction Center and the Supervisor of the Western Division. In highlighting various areas of advancement in the Hong Kong operations, the team suggested ways and means of the possible adoptation of these with adaptations to meet the Fiji situation. The use of the workshop to bring in officers of various ranking gave staff the opportunity how such operations are developed and knitted together, but more importantly in their actual participation in molding and setting the direction of Fiji’s Operational Strategy. While the workshop was an eye opener for most, it spelt the beginning of a new era in setting the mode and the tempo for changes in our prison system. Through the use of rank and file to help disseminate the required changes and to obtain their actual support and commitment to these developments, the workshop has ensured their being part to the necessary change process in readiness for the coming into force of the new Act in 2011.
