PRISON IS NOT YOUR HOME
“If you think that prison is your home and you feel comfortable, than something is wrong with you.”
This was the strong message the Fiji Prisons and Correctional Services Commissioner Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua gave to inmates of Vaturekuka Prison in Labasa on Thursday, July 24. The Prison Commissioner who is leading a Northern road show with other senior prison officers, government officials and relevant stakeholders, reviewed a parade made up of prison wardens and inmates at the Labasa Prison. Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua told inmates that prison was not their home, but only a stop over until they go back to their real homes. The Northern road show which started on Monday July 20 has encompassed the provinces of Macuata, Bua and Cakaudrove. The key components of the Commissioner’s tour is involve society as partners in the rehabilitation of ex-offenders and to clarify any doubts that the public has on accepting their sons, daughters, brothers and sisters back into society. “We have been on the road, preaching to the public to clarify any doubts and clear misconceptions of ex-convicts and to plead for society’s support of our initiatives,” the Commissioner of Prisons the inmates. www.corrections.org.fj |
