MINISTRY OF FIJIAN AFFAIRS OFFICIALS VISIT PRISONS
![]() The visibility and engagement initiative of the Fiji Prisons and Corrections Service has resumed with a visit to the prisons Suva and Naboro by officials of the Ministry of Indigenous Affairs and Fijian Affairs Board. Led by the Deputy Permanent Secretary Saverio Baleikanacea, the delegations were briefed at the Prisons Headquarters in Civic House before they were taken on a tour of correctional institutions in Suva and Naboro. The briefing at headquarters was done by the Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Auta Moceisuva who also led them on the tour of the institutions. The Ministry of Indigenous Affairs is a vital stakeholder in the rehabilitation framework of the Service as over 80 percent of the prison population is indigenous Fijians. A major objective of the visit is to get more involvement of agencies under the ministry such as the provincial councils, FAB, etc, especially in the post release care of the offenders. Lau has in recent years been the only province to be actively involved in the welfares of the inmates from the province with visits from delegation including mothers and joint church services. www.corrections.org.fj |
