LAU TO ASSIST IN REHABILITATION PROGRAMME
![]() Delegates from Lau Province at the Molikula Education Training Centre, Naboro Maximum Security Prison. Twenty three delegates from the Province of Lau today were brief on the programmes that were being implemented at the Fiji Prisons and Correctional Services (FPCS) at the Naboro Prison Complex. The delegation from Lau will go down in the history of the Correctional Service as the first even province to visit the facilities in order to identify avenues to assist the FPCS in their rehabilitation and Yellow Ribbon programmes. Commissioner of Fiji Prisons and Correctional Services told the delegates that he was happy that Lau had set precedence and he hope that other provinces take heir cue from them. He told the delegates that their sons and daughters in prison were not born bad but circumstances had leaded them to prison. The Commissioner said that as correctional professionals it is their job to make sure that those under custody are looked after and prepared to become better people and lead normal lives. “Before they use to come in bad, stay in bad and leave as bad, they were no changes. “Not we receive them as bad, we mould them by redirecting them away from the vicious cycle of crime and this makes society safe.” The Commissioner told the delegates that for the ex-offenders to get accepted back into normal society face two prisons. “The first is the actual prison systems where the warden holds the key. “However, on release, they enter another prison, which is held by the families, friends, neighbours, religious groups and the communities. “Our rehabilitation and Yellow Ribbon project is to address this and to help us to unlock the second prison.” The delegates from the Province were led by the Roko Tui Lau Ratu Joseva Navakaroko. www.corrections.org.fj |
