Mrs Bolakoro burial
After thirty three years and six months of service in the Fiji Prison and Correctional Service, the late PPO Sovaia Bolakoro passed away on June 10, 2009 at her residence in Korovou, Suva.

The late PPO Bolakoro was born on January 12, 1955 and hails from Navukailagi, Gau in the Lomaiviti group.

She is the last of the female officers who started the first Women’s Prison at Levuka in 1975 before it was moved to the new site at Korovou, Suva.

Mrs Bolakoro serves at various sections in the Fiji Prison and Correctional Service where she was also Officer-in-Charge of Women’s Prison for fourteen years.

Before the Yellow Ribbon Project was introduced into the service, the late PPO Bolakoro during her years as Officer Charge, Women’s Prison has been taking discharged prisoners home to their families and also with the help of NGOs was able to provide them with materials in order for them to start a new life.

She is survived by her husband Mr. Ilikana Bolakoro and four children.

Her contribution to the Fiji Prisons and Corrections Service has been duly acknowledged and may her soul rest in peace.
