There was excitement in the Tailevu village of Savu in Vugalei when her daughter Litiana Bukabai was released from prison.

But this time it was a bit different when Bukabai was accompanied back to the village by officers of the Fiji Prison and Correctional Service to be officially handed over to the care of the family. 

It is the first time that such a gesture care was witnessed in the village.

The escort team included CO Medium Security Prison A/CPO Sakiusa Veiwili, CMT coordinator POA Apimeleki Navuni, women officers POC Ester Veiwili and POC Maraia Merumeru. 

The delegation was received by the family led by chief and her father,the Tui Vugalei Ratu Isikeli Rasoqosoqo Cabenalevu.

Rt Rasoqosoqo said that it was a first time for him to see an offender to be escorted back home after released and it was good and really touched him.

The formal handing over of released offenders to the community is a new initiative to demonstrate the care and interest of the department in continuing care of offenders when they are released to society.
